The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired veteran forward Mark Recchi from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
A source confirmed the deal to The Canadian Press. The 38-year-old Recchi is earning $2.28 million US this season and is under contract to earn the same next year. Recchi has 1,258 points in 1,236 NHL games and won a Stanley Cup with Pittsburgh in 1991.
The Hurricanes have an NHL-best 91 points and have been looking for veteran depth heading to the playoffs.
Carolina also added veteran forward Doug Weight in a trade with St. Louis on Jan. 30.
