And Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson is confident his team is up to the challenge, despite having endured plenty of frustration along the way.

"You always go though life's ups and downs, and the belief you have is that every year is a new chance," Alfredsson said. "Even though you go through tough times, I'm not going to complain too much."

Detroit Red Wings vs. Anaheim Ducks: 9 PM EST

But enough about the Sens. Tonight's got the Detroit Red Wings taking on the Anaheim Ducks, a nail-biting series that has both teams tied at one game apiece. Will tonight's lineup change for the Red Wings be enough to fend off a determined Ducks squad that may be bigger and faster (but not necessarily better)?

Maybe. Maybe not.

"I don't think anybody thought this was going to be easy," said Red Wings coach Mike Babcock. "I think everybody thought this was going to be a real battle. Thus far, it's been that way. I don't want to take anything away from the other team, because I think that's real important, but we don't think we've played as good as we can - not even close. At 2:00 PM ET the Sharks take on the Red Wings in Detroit; at 8:00 PM ET the Devils play host to the Senators. And between this all the 133rd Kentucky Derby (2 minutes as opposed to 3 hours, for those with short attention spans), with post time slotted for 6:04 PM ET.

How do these matchups stack up in the sports books? The Sharks are given 7/2 to win this year's Stanley Cup, compared to a distant 8/1 for the Red Wings. The Devils are 10/1 to take the Cup in the futures, where the Senators -- like the Sharks -- are given 7/2.

And in the ever-exciting world of Kentucky Derby odds, the favorite horse is Curlin, currently given 3/1 to win the Road to the Roses.

So bundle up in the jersey of your favorite NHL hockey team, watch the Sharks gobble up the Red Wings, have a late lunch -- and then recline with a cooling Mint Julep as the ponies work their way to the gate. After you've recovered from the excitement at Churchill Downs, you can get on your skates and return (at least virtually) to the ice.

Technorati tag(s): kentucky derby odds, nhl playoffsSportsbook Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23539968.post-1162414040258216322006-10-29T12:47:00.000-08:002006-11-01T12:57:11.436-08:00NHL Winning StreaksLongest winning streaks in NHL history:

17 - Pittsburgh Penguins, March 9 to April 10, 1993
15 - x-Buffalo Sabres, April 8, 2006 to present
15 - New York Islanders, Jan. 21 to Feb. 20, 1982
14 - Boston Bruins, Dec. 3, 1929, to Jan. 9, 1930

Technorati Tag(s): Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo SabresSportsbook Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23539968.post-1162413774051492302006-10-23T12:41:00.000-07:002006-11-01T12:44:45.006-08:00Marian Gaborik Still OutMinnesota Wild winger Marian Gaborik will probably be out for another 10 to 14 days because of a mild groin strain.

Gaborik was hurt in the third period of Friday's game at Anaheim and did not play Saturday against San Jose. I came across a website this morning called Bluemile.ca.

Some of you might remember the Redmile, the famous fans from Calgary, Alberta. The Bluemile not suprisingly represents the hotties in Edmonton, Alberta. All I can say is I hope Edmonton gets back on track other wise the Bluemile will become a dead end.

"Some pictures from last night but not too much action due to the loss so you will find some pic's in this gallery from last Monday's win(Round 1, Game 6, we beat Detroit duh!). If you see bluemile.ca crew tonight, don't be such a boob and show some!"Sportsbook Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23539968.post-1147281036312347912006-05-10T10:09:00.000-07:002006-05-10T15:23:34.326-07:00Giants Win Championship
The Vancouver Giants have moved into the WHL record books with their 12th win in a row in the playoffs.
